3 Reads 2 u From Me

by: a.illumi

There is something you should know about Lumi….she is OBSESSED with reading! In fact, it is the one consistent hobby of her little sparkly life thus far! As you might expect, because of this 25 year bookish compulsion I have read some rather good books! And since no one in my real life wants to talk about BOOKS – granted heated exchange of strange customer behavior is more immediately rewarding – for whatever reason Lumi is desperately in need of an outlet to introduce very special books to someone, anyone, YOU! I feel it best to mention right away that these books will not necessarily be new – best sellers – or critically acclaimed – though I am not against any of those things – there are just plenty of reviews out there doing a bang-up job of covering all that is new and best selling and award winning and all that – also these books that I present here all must meet a very special qualification of my own – I have read them at least three times…that’s right – in order to make it into 3 From me– a book has to be that lovable – that interesting – that layered and rewarding that I pick it up again, and again, and one more time again.

Of the books, you should read at least one – don’t worry – I am putting them in order of importance so those of you are not closet bookish nerds can best utilize you smaller alloted reading times! And here they are in order of their extreme fabulousness – really only by fractions of a millipick is one better than the other…the number one book I recommend everyone read – even if they never read anything else is:

#1 LAMB: Christopher Moore

You know a book is special – when above all other books – it’s one you like to give as a gift. Lamb is a beautiful irreverent romp through the lost years of Joshua of Nazareth(Jesus). Full of love and jokes and magic…frosted with yetis, concubines, and karate kicks – Lamb will leave you with a whole new take on the savior and his heretofore unknown best friend and her of course the Magdalen!

#2 Catch-22: Joseph Heller

What I like about these first two books is that guys and girls are able to enjoy them equally…there are both full of timeless truisms and character that translate from their individual plot and circumstances into the immortal realm of archetypes and fairy tales. Yossarian, the main character in Catch-22, even has become immortalized by the unforgettable statement “Yossarian Lives!” But I am going backwards – that is the end of the story – or is it? haha back to point though – this book is a WWII era intimate peek into loves of soldiers and the war they were in…It becomes a story that covers all the struggles human’s can face including responsibility, fear, love, vice, and most importantly achieving and existence* that goes beyond mere survival. This is no typical war fiction – it is meant to be read and enjoyed by all or have ever questioned any authoritative or beureacratuc institution. Or anyone who just wonders where the phrase “Catch-22” came from!

#3 Kon-Tiki: Thor Heyerdahl

Hmm – as it turns our this time

3 F

or

U

brings you three stories that are all of equal interest to guys and girls( I know I know *alarm* GENDER STEREOTYPING – I sorry – but really “guys

and girls” just sounds better than “than those who have

more feminine or masculine personality traits and those who are gender neutral

or mixed gender or or or…) But yes all of that – everyone will enjoy this equally – in short – this book and the two preceding it are gender-proof and very awesome read-alouds for couples and friends! This fact comes as a huge surprise with Kon-Tiki which at first glance seems a somewhat mildewed journal of a research voyage that happened in 1947. But it is so much more than that! It’s a Pirates of the Caribbean* worthy adventure but like it’s a true story!! Let me see…in this story you will find tales of ancient civilizations, lives of some very brave and brilliant men, a very special raft, and all the emotions and experiences that come with humans facing nature on their own…oh! and then crash landing into native island culture and ultimately their goal. Among your chic lit or murder mysteries taken to the beach Lumi would urgently suggest packing along Kon-tiki, as it will not disappoint

..Your Bonus prize will be looking really smart next time you are Target and explain to your loved onez just what those little statues carved in the plastic coconut

 cups mean!

Tah-dah there you have it! 3 Books and One Reviewthat promise not to waste your time! Our theme this time seems to be books that are gender nuetral – and wooh to those because we can enjoy them together! Another also unintended theme is that each of these books are available in their newest edition for cheap! From $5.99-10.32 they make a very cheap date indeed! All the pictures above link to their amazon profile for your ordering convenience – also if you order all three at once you might even get the super saving shipping! Please do read them – especially out loud especially number one and two – number three u might want to take in waterside or in a cardboard box pretending to face the high seas on a raft – you know it’s really up to you!

As Always Myself and Auntie Wicked want to know what you think and especially if u do read or have read on these books! Did u love it too? Did u hate it? What was you favorite quote? let us know! leave comments!
