Lumi’s Haunted Things and Stuff:

The HAUNTED TOOTHBRUSH

by a.Illumi

What you need to know is that Lumi totally said, “What I will do for the 30 days of Halloween is — you know Wicked – like uhmm haunted things and stuff …like silly things though… like a… “haunted toothbrush!” – thinking this was an outrageous example of funny things that people might say were haunted…HAVING NO IDEA that this was for real, totally a statement used by many others to scoff at haunted things, and something people actually make videos, art, and stories about! Oh oh and that first pic – certainly isn’t a HAUNTED toothbrush but I am thinking a toothbrush used on a bat maybe gets a few haunted points? and it has a cute little history on “know your meme” click on over there and meet little Rubberleg’s(the bat’s cute name!) But enough distraction with cuteness! This is a serious blog about seriously haunted toothbrushes!

Now Here’s a man with a for-real haunted toothbrush problem!

It seems that the lingering funny/scary idea of the haunted toothbrush ran wild all over the place in 2007 – touching even the most profound commentary from talented comic book man Grant Morrison:

“It’s not difficult to cultivate ideas – the very simplest thing to do is to take two things not normally associated and throw them together. Lautréamont described this method in his famous ‘the chance meeting of a sewing machine and an umbrella on a dissecting table…’ line, which became like the bedrock of surrealist technique. Or take one fairly charged word like, say, haunted, and add any other noun to it – ‘haunted ashtray’, ‘haunted toothbrush’ etc. – these things, daft as they are, suggest all kinds of possibilities for stories. “-Morrison

The haunted toothbrush phenomena has also been spotted in STORY FORM: In Kelly Link’s “Stone Animals”(i found out about Kelly link’s book from this fun blog and then bought it in kindlepc edition from here) from her collection Magic for Beginners – the first of many items to become haunted is the TOOTHBRUSH!

Apparently, the TOOTHBRUSH is an item of importance when ghosts wish to signal a haunting! Link’s amazing girl character says, “I’m real concerned about this toothbrush.” but wait, wait! It’s not just the stuff of fiction this girl from New Jersey told a story in 2009 of a ghost she would later meet first announcing it’s presence by levitating her toothbrush! Wonder if she was the person who is rumored to have made a healthy handful of money selling a haunted toothbrush eBay? Hopefully her ghost wasn’t a jerk like this poor guy’s who not only levitated his toothbrush but also gave it a swim in the toilet!

2006-2007 also saw many videos of EXTREME BRUSHING in which you brush your teeth loudly and furiously to death metal and then there is (advertisement version) SCARY brushing (scrushing as one boy dubbed it)- and then the homemade version scary brushing -based on the horror movie cleche’ …that if you don’t turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth something bad is going to happen! You would also be shocked how many creative types out there see the toothbrush itself come alive – be alive? get animated – and SCARY!

Here’s one deviant artists warning to all the KIDDIES!

If the ghastly giver of cavities doesn’t scare you perhaps this man’s trailer for a movie about scary toothbrushes will – it actually did me – horrible bloody monster toothbrush beasts! If that was a little too scary take on this link and enjoy the scary weirdness of animated toothbrushes facing off.

Lumi cannot believe herself – there is just so very very much to say about the history of haunted toothbrushes on the Internet! In fact Lumi found one animation of walking talking toothbrushes from 1974 – like a hundred years ago or something!! It seems we have all long KNOWN and FEARED that our toothbrushes are much more than simple dental cleaning devices!

Lumi is almost out of breathe after all this running around the Internet but there are several other toothy points I wants to say before i run off in search of the perfect fairy costume for this year –

Toothbrush as weapon – Joe Psycho

Also in real life kids play toothbrush as murder weapon out – this one is super special because they use an adorable Spongebob toothbrush!

This guy winds a double prize because his toothbrush is moving around on it’s own AND a murder weapon!

Lumi keeps trying to wrap this up but there are so many more things to you all about the tricky strange Halloween weirdness of toothbrushes!

Here’s a Few:

Toothbrushes as facial cleansing device(which is scary interesting and may be a future sanctuary project)

Toothbrushes in a pear tree -kidding – wait for x-mas!But I do have a scary woodpecker with a toothbrush from jabberwockyjones:

toothbrushes as devices to attach your self satisfaction devices? -Now that’s scary!

And Lumi couldn’t leave without sharing this with you with —–the scary toothbrush that has to scrub that scary hippo mouth!

As this Halloween month gears up remember the magic and the haunt can be anywhere – especially bathrooms which as you know we at Auntie Wicked hold sacred and dear. And really? you though giving out toothbrushes was just a lame cop-out to avoid giving children candy! Now we know – giving out these trick or treat toothbrushes might be the spookiest thing of all!
